Dupe Away needs to be smarter

Jeff Aug 09, 2015 02:01AM CDT

If there are duplicate/multiple song titles listed in iTunes that represent only 1 single exact same mp3 file located inside the media folder, Dupe Away doesn't distinguish this and will throw away the 1 only mp3 file into the trash. There should at least be an option to delete a duplicate song title in the iTunes list without throwing the actual music file into the trash, like how it works in iTunes. But if that's just how Depe Away works and it can't be fixed, I'm not sure I want to continue using this application.

Thanks for the feedback. I will certainly ask our development team to add that kind of detection to Dupe Away. It’s fairly rare for multiple iTunes tracks to be linked to a single audio file, so do you know how it happened in your case? Did you have some dead/missing file tracks with !, and you chose to locate and point it to the single file? Typically, each iTunes track will have its own media file.

Think this user was trying to say that DUPEAWAY should move the deleted songs to some other location and not to the trash. Well in WINDOWS the trash does not get emptied until you actively do so. So you still have your MP3 music. You just have to recover it. Also you should be able to see in ITUNES that you have files with missing MP3 actual music. So you can detect if somehow DUPEAWAY flagged and deleted a music file it should not have, then you can go back and restore it from the trash.

Still thinking DUPEAWAY is way more sophisticated than originally thought. It seems to do the searching for duplicates in an advanced smart way. Still testing though.
