Duplicate in ITUNES, and linked playlist

Kevin Sep 29, 2015 09:42AM CDT

I am selecting all the exact duplicates to find via settings in DUPE AWAY. But if I delete the exact duplicate music file, how does ITUNES and DUPEAWAY treat the linked playlist? Does the playlist now remove that song? Should the playlist actually re-link to the valid song?

The only way to do this I suppose is to have DUPE AWAY cause all playlists to insert both duplicate songs into the playlist; and then to delete one of the duplicate songs. That way you do not mess up the playlist associated with the song that will be deleted from ITunes.

Do you follow? is this possible to do? and is there a way to do this?

Currently, if a duplicate is removed that was in a playlist or playlists, then it will get removed from any playlists that it was in. Dupe Away won’t replace that duplicate with the other track in your playlist(s), but Dupe Away does default to choosing the track that is in the least number of playlists when it chooses which dupe to delete.

Actually DUPEAWAY does not default to choosing the track that is the least number of playlists. You have a priority selection setting in your preferences on the application. If you put checking for playlist count at the highest priority, then you should get the effect of finding the playlist count and selecting the item with the lowest count to duplicate. But this is not happening automatically. have tried adjusting the settings and it makes little difference so far. Still testing. You may wish to test it there, and see what happens.

Still. I thank you for at least having this as a thought out process.

BTW: did you see you have the word ARTIST misspelled in your preferences setting? It is somehow an error on that page.
